SUPPORT US

“It’s easy for me to say that this is bad or that’s not what we do in America. But when we did that circle dance in the village with like 100 women and girls—it ended up being we were dancing to honor the first girl to attend college from her village. I was like, “Wow, it’s the same in my family. I’m a first-generation college student too.” I just felt like who am I to judge? And the way they danced for her. I got so emotional.”

We have made significant efforts to move the needle on equity in global education, having facilitated over 25 study abroad experiences since our founding… But we can’t do it alone and need the support of our global community. The people we help through our foundation are low-income students, educators, artists, and social entrepreneurs from under-resourced communities-many of whom are unhoused or have never traveled outside of their homeland. Developing intercultural and global citizenship skills can help them succeed in the world and be successful in the global marketplace. We strive to cultivate those human connections that can be life-changing and personally rewarding.

DONATE: Equity in Study Abroad

“I know when I first came back, I think a lot of people had noticed it—just me kind of being more in tune and more at peace with who I was as a human being.

Cultural Links established the G.E.P. Foundation-Global Education for the People to bring more equity and access to study abroad. Through our international education and service-learning programs, we focus our attention on the most under-resourced students and disadvantaged communities. Research confirms that studying abroad increases graduation rates. Past participants say they benefitted greatly from our programs and that their time abroad gave them a brighter outlook and direction in life.

DONATE: Global Arts Education

“The African achieves knowing through imagination, intuition, feelings, and abstraction; he therefore uses the oral traditions of music, folklores, myths, proverbs, etc.” (Anselm Jimoh)

Researching African Diaspora student voice is important to us. We believe arts and education are the pillars of success which form the critical foundation to which society can improve. Heritage programming rooted in historical and cultural expressions through music, dance, storytelling, theater, film, book writing, and folk arts is what research has revealed and what we believe can profoundly impact student’s lives. Expanding the African Diaspora as a learning ground is what we believe is critical in developing transformative global education.
